Groomers might cover an aggressive dog's face with a towel while moving the dog. Aggressive dogs are restrained with a loop and most groomers have muzzles on hand for the toughest dogs. Neither of these devices will hurt your dog. Both ensure your dog stays on the table during the groom for her own safety.

Groomers cannot legally sedate a dog. If the groomer works in a veterinary hospital the vet can authorize sedation but it is given by a technician. In the case of oral medications that a vet has prescribed, an owner can give it to the pet before a grooming appointment, as it takes about an hour to be effective.

Only when the dog pulls. Some groomers use grooming nooses. If and when the dog is particularly wiggly, restraints may be used both around the neck and the hindquarters.

Unfortunately, many dogs feel the same way and are often afraid or uncomfortable with being groomed. You might notice your dog hates beign groomed. But by shifting your approach to grooming, you can make it an activity that your dog actively participates in — and even enjoys.
